System consists of the main compacting unit and a separate control panel. Controls are also located on the compactor for convenience while unloading. This unit reduces the volume of trash approximately 10:1, compacting it into a 14 cylindrical slug which will weigh up to 60 lbs (depending on what is compacted this will vary).

The compaction is done by a hydraulic cylinder which is powered by a hydraulic power supply housed in a separate cabinet. The overall construction of the compacting unit is very heavy duty with 1 thick steel plate and tube with reinforcement gussets throughout with an overall weight of 3800 lbs. The manual lists all the shipboard items that can be crushed in the unit and they are as follows: Cardboard, boxes, wooden crates, metal construction scrap, light gauge sheet metal trash, scrap aircraft parts, scrap electronics, buckets , metal containers, aluminum cans, paper, plastic, etc. It specifically says do not put motors or similar machinery into the compactor. The interpretation of the manual is that the compactor can crush most items except dense or heavy steel. The compactor would probably work very well at crushing machine shop chips and turnings. The hydraulic power unit hour meter indicates 10.9 hours although it is obvious that the compactor was never operated due to the lack of scratches in the compacting chamber. Designed to crush trash, light metal, cardboard, wooden crates, cardboard, etc. Produces a roughly 60 lb slug 14 in diameter.

60,000 Lbs of force from the cylinder compacts the trash to 300 psi. Water port on compactor body to aid in cleaning. 440 VAC, 10 A, 3 phase. The hopper opening measures 18 1/2" x 22 which tapers down to 14" x 22 in the compacting throat.

Safety interlock switch shuts power to compactor when hopper lid is opened. Indicator lights: Power, manual mode, automatic mode, chamber full, and ready. Oil temp and pressure gauges.

Oil temp and pressure indicator lights. Change filter indicator light, this will also come on when oil is below 65 deg F. Auto cycle and slug size adjustments. Powered by a 7 1/2 hp electric motor. Dual pump puts out 15 GPM and 7.5 GPM.

A valve manifold controls this for high or low pressure operation. Reservoir requires 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid. 15 GPM and 7.5 GPM. Westinghouse Life-Line T model TBFC, style 6808213629. 220/440 VAC, 3 phase 10A.

Each pump output has a 150 micron suction strainer (cleanable) and a separate 25 micron filter (replaceable). All dims inches unless otherwise noted.
